Dar: I would like to leave this city
This old town don't smell too pretty and
I can feel the warning signs running around my mind
And when I leave this island I'll book myself into a soul asylum
And I can feel the warning signs running around my mind
So here I go still scratching around the same old hole
My body feels young but my mind is very old
So what do you say?
You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway
You're half the world away
Half the world away
Half the world away
I've been lost I've been found but I don't feel down.
So here I go still scratching around in the same old hole
My body feels young but my mind if very old
So what do you say?
You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway
You're half the world away
Half the world away
Half the world away
I've been lost I've been found but I don't feel down

Dar: The song was written by Oasis' lead guitarist Noel Gallagher, who also provides lead vocals, taking over from Oasis' regular lead singer, Liam Gallagher. The song is a slow acoustic tune with plodding keyboards, and the lyric - much like "Rock 'n' Roll Star", one of Oasis' most famous songs - expresses a desire to leave a stagnant life in a boring city.

Dar: I think its the best Noel Gallagher song ever - but that is my opinion!
What do you know about this artist or track that others may not?
Dar: In interviews, Gallagher - who is famous for "borrowing" from other musicians - has admitted the tune to "Half the World Away" was adapted from "This Guy's In Love With You" by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. He commented "It sounds exactly the same. I'm surprised he hasn't sued me yet!"
